Tamiflu (Oseltamivir Phosphate)
is a neuraminidase inhibitor used to treat infections caused by the influenza virus. This group of medicines attack the influenza virus and prevent it from spreading, rather than simply masking the symptoms as many over-the-counter ‘flu medications tend to do. Uses
Tamiflu Drug is safe to use in patients as young as one year old, although you must inform your GP that you are using Tamiflu or any other non-prescription treatment for the effects of influenza, particularly if you are taking other medication for kidney disorders, allergies, are pregnant or breast-feeding. It treats the cause of influenza by inhibiting the critical neraminidase protein on the surface of the virus. Tamiflu should be taken twice a day for five days, with or without food and the full treatment of ten capsules should be completed even if the symptoms subside. Tamiflu should not be shared with anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms. If you a miss a dose, take it if it is within 2 hours of the missed dose. If it is more than 1 hour since the missed dose, skip it and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up on your dosage schedule.

Tamiflu does not generally cause any side effects, although it may cause mild nausea in some people. Other less common side effects may include bronchitis, sleeplessness and vertigo, and in some cases it has been indicated as causing hallucinations, delirium or other related behaviour.

As with all medicines, Tamiflu should be stored out of the reach of children, and should be kept away from heat and excessive light.
